One of the newest members to join the PRCC is Broken Earth Winery, whose beautiful, historic property was originally called Rancho Tierra Rejada, Spanish for “land of worked earth.” Established in 1973 as the Shimmin Canyon Vineyard , the current vineyard comprises 520 acres on Paso Robles’ east side.
Broken Earth’s Vice President and Director of Winemaking, Chris Cameron, boasts a long list of international accolades, including “Best Merlot Worldwide” (International Wine and Spirit Competition London) , the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy (Royal Melbourne Wine Show), 97+ points for wines rated by Wine Advocate and 96 points in Wine Spectator.
While Broken Earth Winery manages several different brands, tiers and price points, Bordeaux varieties and blends are critical to the repertoire, including
- Quadrant Platinum, a food-friendly Bordeaux-style blend with plenty of fruit, acidity and plush texture
- PULL, Merlot, a juicy, easy-drinking wine with soft tannins and a silky finish
- Shimmin Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon, a full-bodied, classic Paso Cabernet Sauvignon with complex fruit, walnuts, and anise.
Visitors to the Broken Earth tasting room on Paso Robles’ Hwy 46 East might remember it as either Arciero Vineyards or EOS Estate Wines from pre-2006. As Broken Earth, the new facility offers a full wine tasting menu as well as a Café and General Store offering fresh panini, salads and wraps, a full service espresso bar, and a selection of specialty foods. The tasting room is open daily from 10-5pm and is located at 5625 Highway 46 East, in Paso Robles, CA, 93446. For more information, please visit BrokenEarthWinery.com.
