PRCC member winery, Ancient Peaks, is located in Santa Margarita, CA. As the only vineyard in Santa Margarita, Ancient Peaks reaps the benefits of the unique growing conditions and diverse soil types surrounding the AVA, allowing them to create a variety of complex and superb wines. Along with producing remarkable wines, Ancient Peaks also offers unique experiences for those who are looking for something slightly more adventurous to pair with wine.
Sprawling across Ancient Peaks’ property is a zip lining course featuring 6 zip lines that allow you to fly over the vineyards and get a different perspective of the beauty of Santa Margarita. We took a trip to experience the adventure for ourselves, and it did not disappoint!
We started off with a delicious lunch in the tasting room café. Right when we walked in we were greeted with our first taste of wine, a delicious 2016 Rose that wasn’t on the tasting menu yet. We were dazzled with a beautiful charcuterie plate with various cheeses, meats, honey and spreads, followed by gourmet sandwiches and salads paired with the following wines:
2016 Sauvignon Blanc
2015 WL Chardonnay
2015 Zinfandel
2014 Merlot2014 Cabernet Sauvignon
2015 Renegade
From there, we joined our zip lining group across the street at Margarita Adventures and prepared for the excursion. We all loaded onto a bus and started the journey out to the zip lining course. Along the way, our guide did an excellent job sharing interesting facts about Santa Margarita and pointing out wildlife, including an eagle’s nest, while we wound through the beautiful, pristine property.
Upon arriving, the safety crew was ready and waiting to ensure we were strapped in and ready to go. The team took extra care to make sure everyone felt comfortable and safe, and got the whole group excited about how much fun the tour would be. And, they were right! The first line was the highest and longest, but the rest of the lines provided different thrills. The course included five more zip lines, each with different obstacles and fun challenges to complete along the way (like throwing a bean bag into a barrel thirty feet below, while flying overhead!)
After the last line, we all piled back on the bus and started the trip back to the winery. Of course, we couldn’t let such a great experience end there so we walked back over to the tasting room for a celebratory glass of wine.
